Rays get lucroy and will smith

Brewers get willy adames, justin o'conner, odorizzi, honeywell, shcaffer and Jacob faria
That's 5 rays top prospect and a # 2 type starter.

Replace Honeywell with Snell and Brewers throw in low A pitcher and deal gets done.

The Rays wouldn't give up Odorizzi for LUCROY even straight up.

That's fine, because the Brewers wouldn't give up Lucroy for Odorizzi.

Rays have to give up Snell + 2-3 MAJOR pieces for Lucroy.

Lucroy is a top 3 catcher in baseball. To start the year, he's already looking like the Jonathan Lucroy we saw a few years ago.

134 wRC+
.386 wOBA
.889 OPS (for you simpletons out there)

It's going to take a ridiculous package to pry Lucroy away from Milwaukee, especially when you consider that his salary is really low considering his talent.

So think 1-2 top prospects, plus maybe an MLB ready player.

I would think the Rays would go all in for Lucroy, but with only 1 year left on his deal after this season, I wouldn't sell the farm. If your giving up a big package, make sure you can keep the guy for a while. That would look terrible to get fleeced and then lose the guy.

What's stopping Lucroy from being extended?

Oh, yeah, he'd be going to Tampa Bay. Never mind.

I would think one of the best catchers in the game would test the market at his age. Rays wouldn't be able to muster the cash to extend him.

Perhaps he would. From what I've read re: Lucroy, especially in local papers (I live in Wisconsin), is that he's incredibly loyal. One of his interviews in the Milwaukee newspaper even suggested that he'd rather sign with a team long-term than play the FA game, as it gives him a greater sense of personal security.

My guess: He's already had conversations with David Stearns about being traded to a place that will extend him long-term. (He has no say in this, but what GM wouldn't listen to his best player? )

I guess that changes things, but if I was the Rays GM I would likely go after maybe a Derek Norris. Defiantly not nearly as good as Lucroy, but Norris would be cheaper to acquire and is a pretty solid catcher. Lucroy would command more money and a ton of players to acquire him.

Norris is one of the worst offensive players in baseball right now.

Curt Casali is a significant upgrade right now.
