Trade in offseason
Diamondbacks trade: Patrick Corbin
Braves trade: Aaron Blair, Touki Touissant, Jon Gant
I know it's weird the Diamondbacks get back two guys they traded to Atlanta but Toussiant has held batters to .219 average in the minors and was only traded so they could get rid of Bronson Arroyo. They could also want Blair back with the idea they could fix him. The Braves have said they want to win next year and get a potential No. 2 starter for people who aren't a major part of their plans. I think the D-Backs are fed up with Corbin's performance and want a strong starter behind Greinke and hopefully Miller and Bradley.

If the Diamondbacks don't value Corbin's performance, why would the Braves give up two strong pitching prospects to get him?

Blair has been bad to the point where Atlanta's GM said he isn't safe in next years rotation. Toussiant is 10 on MLB. com's top 30 Braves prospects and has an ERA above 4.00. Neither is MLB. com's Top 100. Corbin was productive last year and the year before that was an All Star. He's young and has potential but I just think the Braves would rather take a chance on him for two guys who aren't a huge part of their plans anymore. And John Gant can be taken out.

Blair has been so unproductive of late that Atlanta's GM said he had to fight for a spot in next years rotation. Touissant is 10 on MLB. com's top 30 prospects and has an ERA above 4.00. Neither is part of the Top 100 prospects either. Corbin was good last year and was an All-Star the year before. He is young and has potential its just the Braves should take a deal for a controllable possible No. 2 and the Diamondbacks don't have much use or patience for him anymore. Take John Gant out if it makes it more fair too.

I didn't mean to post that twice I thought it didn't go through.

Wait, you think he's as good as a #2 starter, but you don't think he's worth top prospects?

Touissant is not a top prospect yet if at all and Blair has struggled even in the minors so stop saying they're top prospects they aren't anymore. Corbin isn't a good number 2 starter but definently has potential to be one so if Blair and Touissant are top prospects like you say they are then maybe they should be worth him.

I can't tell if you're being obtuse on purpose or if this comes naturally.

I'm not necessarily calling Blair or Toussaint a top prospect. I'm going off your claim that they are, indeed, not. You've made it evidently clear you don't think they are. That's fine.

With that said, you keep referring to Corbin as a potential number #2 starter.

If the Diamondbacks know that the Braves see Corbin as a #2 starter, don't you think they are going to demand top prospects in return for him? Why would they take two prospects who supposedly aren't any good for a guy with the potential to be really, really good?

You think I'm obtuse, go look at you're second comment saying they were top prospects to prove I was wrong. now you "didn't necessarily call them top prospects" and that they're not worth Corbin now.
Blair used to be good but Dansby Swanson might be all Atlanta cared about from that trade and because of his performance he's not a top prospect but all his value hasn't been sucked out of him. Touissant was a first rounder and is okay. The problem with Corbin is that you never know how he's going to perform. I think Arizona is fed up with Corbin the same way Atlanta is with Blair. Toussiant is included to give Arizona more value to even out the trade. I don't really need to say anymore.

Okay, let me explain this slowly for all you Boston sports fans in the room.

You started with the trade idea.

I responded by calling the two "strong pitching prospects ", which they are.

You chided such a notion. Acting like they are SOOO bad. But you also called Corbin a "potential #2 starter"

What team is going to give up a "potential #2 starter" for two guys who you say aren't "top prospects"?

If Atlanta is going to get a front-of-the-rotation guy, they would certainly have to give up top prospects, don't you think?

Seriously, this wasn't that difficult.

Again, to recap your statement:

Blair and Toussaint suck.
Corbin is a potential #2 starter.

But Toussaint and Blair, who suck, would bring back a guy with the ceiling of a top starter. Makes TOTAL sense.

^wow RedSoxfan it looks like you're whole argument is a big contradiction.

I think what he is trying to say is that the Dbacks would be trading struggling pitcher that has had success for a struggling pitcher with no MLB success and a prospect. But yes, a #2 wouldn't be had for 2 bad prospects (not that Blair and Toussaint are bad) .
