Cubs

The Cubs NEED to make a move (or two) to contend this year or next. They need another pitcher and a middle of the order bat. Enter the Tigers. Fresh off making Price and Cespedes available, the Cubs should bounce all over this.

CHC) David Price and Yoenis Cespedes
DET) Javier Baez, Carl Edwards, Billy McKinney, Pierce Johnson and Dan Vogelbach

This trade instantly boosts Chicago's offense and pitching. Also allowing CHC more time to negotiate with Price ahead of FA. The connection between Maddon and Price will interest Price to re-sign and Cespedes can walk if they want. However, unless CHC makes a trade they're not competing this year.

C) Kyle Schwarber
1B Anthony Rizzo
2B)Addison Russell
3B)Kris Bryant
SS)Starlin Castro
LF)Yoenis Cespedes
CF)Dexter Fowler
RF)Jorge Soler

SP) David Price
SP) Jon Lester
SP) Jake Arrieta
SP) Jason Hammel
SP) Kyle Hendricks

In my opinion the Cubs can let Cespedes walk, slide Schwarber to LF when Montero returns and bring up Almora for CF. This allows the Cubs to re-sign Price and keep a dangerous team for 2016.

Unless the Cubs can be assured they will sign Price to a long term extension I wouldn't want to see them do this. I'd want to give up less for a rental like Kazmir, and then look the the FA market in the offseason. Don't sell a handful of young prospects for 2 guys you won't have after October. Also, I don't see Det. Sending Cespedes and Price in a package together.

LP22 I know what you're saying about prospects, but think about it like this. If (big if) CHI can re-sign Price there is no room for the guys they're sending. Baez is out of favor there and is blocked by Castro and Russell. Edwards and Johnson wouldn't crack the rotation with Price, Lester, Arrieta, Hammel and Hendricks. McKinney would be blocked by Schwarber, Almora and Soler and Vogelbach is blocked by Rizzo. So while CHC is giving up a good amount, they're able to send these guys to make a serious run at a WS this year and years to come. It really doesn't hurt them as much as you think. They're set up to win over the next 5 years and this trade gives them the best chance.

Price has said he won't go somewhere because of the manager

I'm a major Cubs fan, so trust me, getting Price and Cespedes is appealing. But cheaper rentals like Leake and Kazmir make more sense, when in FA we can sign Price/Cueto/Grienke/Zimmerman. Giving up a haul of prospects in a year where the Cardinals are on a historic pace doesn't make sense. Getting in as a wild card is huge, which they can do if they get Leake/Kazmir. Trading for a big name rental doesn't make sense for them this year. Unless they get negotiating rights for 24-48 hours before the trade goes through.
