Lance Berkman will ride this hitting tear he's on as long as possible. Same goes for Houston manager Cecil Cooper, who continues to be amazed by his club's gutsy play. Berkman splashed his major league leading 15th home run into McCovey Cove to break a 9th inning tie, helping the Astros rally past the Giants 8-7 Thursday for their 11th triumph in 13 games.

The Astros had as much difficulty getting a hit against Hiroki Kuroda as the Dodgers' usually reliable bullpen did in getting outs. Kuroda had taken a no hitter into the 7th inning before the Astros broke through for 7 hits and 6 runs in the 8th inning and pulled out an 8-5 win Sunday.

Astros manager Cecil Cooper was completely optimistic when Hunter Pence, 0 for 5 to that point, went to the plate in the bottom of the 12th with the game tied at 6. "I mentioned to (bench coach) Jackie Moore, you know Hunter's 0 for 5 here. He's not getting out a 6th time", Cooper said.

Back to back nights with back to back home runs helped the Astros to their 2nd straight win. Pitcher Brandon Backe and Michael Bourn hit consecutive home runs in a 5 run 5th inning and the Astros beat the Brewers 6-2 Saturday night.

Micah Owings is not a good hitter for a pitcher. He's a good hitter, period. Owings proved it again Wednesday with an opposite-field, pinch hit home run that tied the game in the 6th and helped the Diamondbacks rally from 4 runs down to beat the Astros 8-7.

Dan Haren's flu is gone and he's back at full strength. Haren pitched into the 8th inning and hit an RBI double, leading the Diamondbacks past the Astros 5-3 Monday. "That is definitely the best stuff I have had all year", he said. Acquired from Oakland in a big trade during the offseason, Haren (4-1) scattered 5 hits over a season high 7 2-3 innings.

Troy Glaus got his 1st homer and curtain call with St. Louis Sunday. Not bad for someone getting over pink eye. Glaus and Albert Pujols went deep to lead the Cardinals to a 5-1 win over the Astros.

Astros center fielder Michael Bourn missed his 4th straight start with a sore left groin Friday however expects to return to the lineup after one more day of rest. "We only decided to give Michael another day", manager Cecil Cooper mentioned before starting a 3 game series against the Cardinals.

Roy Oswalt had a message for Astros manager Cecil Cooper. "He came up and informed me several days ago, Your player is back",' Cooper said. "That was good to know. I am going to ride that as long as I can".

Aaron Cook pitched the Rockies back to a winning record. Brad Hawpe singled in the go ahead run in the 5th, Cook pitched 7 strong innings and the Rockies beat the Astros 3-2 on Saturday night. Brian Fuentes pitched the 8th and Manny Corpas a perfect 9th for his 4th save in 6 chances.
