Even after yesterday's impressive outing for Triple-A Pawtucket, Bartolo Colon is still one more start away from a major league call-up. That means the Red Sox will look to other in-house solutions, David Pauley and Charlie Zink are 2 Triple-A possibilities, to fill the open starter's spot in the rotation Tuesday against the Royals. A decision and announcement expect from the Sox tonight.

Neither the Tigers or the Royals saw this sweep coming. Jose Guillen homered and drove in 3 runs, Gil Meche pitched 7 solid innings and the Royals beat Detroit 8-4 Thursday to complete another 3 game sweep of the Tigers.

Luke Hochevar is in the end starting to demonstrate why the Royals selected him 1st overall in the 2006 draft. Hochevar pitched 6 strong innings and Joey Gathright drove in the only runs, helping the Royals beat the Tigers 2-0 Wednesday and hand Justin Verlander his American League leading 7th loss.

Twelve straight losses to the Orioles was a dirty dozen for Royals. Brian Bannister allowed 2 singles in 8 innings and the Royals beat Baltimore 4-0 Sunday to end their skid against the Orioles. It was Kansas City's 1st win over Baltimore since July 25th, 2006.

The Royals will be keeping a watchful eye on who is hanging around Alex Gordon over the next few days. The Royals hope that a spring-training incident involving Dallas sports-talk station KTCK and Gordon's wife, Jamie, will not escalate during the Royals' 3 game series with the Rangers, which starts tonight.

The Royals requested release waivers Friday on right hander Hideo Nomo, who was designated for assignment Sunday. Nomo will remain on waivers until noon Tuesday, and if he is not claimed by another club, he would become a free agent.

Brian Bannister had a plan against the Twins and Francisco Liriano, and it worked out perfectly. As a result, the Royals snapped a 3 game losing run on a frigid Sunday afternoon with a 5-1 win over the Twins and Liriano, who was making his 1st major league appearance in 17 months.

The Twins recalled left hander Francisco Liriano Friday, and he's expectations to make his 1st start after missing all of last season due to elbow surgery Sunday against the Royals. Liriano was 12-3 with a 2.16 ERA as a rookie in 2006.

Once again, Andy Pettitte came up big when the Yankees needed a win. Pettitte picked up his 1st win and A-Rod and Melky Cabrera each homered and drove in 2 runs, helping the Yankees defeat the Royals 6-1 Thursday night and avoid a series sweep.
