Hamels to Cubs for Baez, Wada, Vogelbach #9 Caratini #10,
1.) Baez and Caratini - okay, but change the other 2 to Billy McKinney and Pierce Johnson.
2.) 07 Dec 2014 05:16:43
No way Phillies trade Hamels to the Cubs without at least 2 of their marquee FAs going their way.
3.) No to all of the above. Pitching is still available everywhere, hitting is becoming more and more rare almost everyday.

Anyone else with me. I would rather sign Scherzer over Lester. Scherzer 18 wins on average last 4 seasons and Lester 14.

Wins have nothing to do with pitcher quality.
If a pitcher leaves the game in the 7th, and his relievers suck, he may not get the win.

I would rather sign Scherzer over Lester. Scherzer has a better win loss record per season, more K's.
Also, could the Cubs afford both Lester and Scherzer? I think so. Or sign one now and Price or someone next year.

Lester is signing at around $150M.
That will then help establish the market for Scherzer, who will probably get anywhere from $180-240M. the Cubs could probably afford it this year. but let's say you sign both.
You sign Lester at 6/150. that's 25 AAV.
Then you sign Scherzer at 7/200. That's 28.6M
Think, in 4 years, Rizzo will be making a lot of money. Alcantara and Soler will be arbitration eligible by then. I'd imagine they'd try and sign a few more pieces too.
They would easily be nearing $225M in payroll in 5-7 years So unless they severely front load the Lester and Scherzer deals, I strongly doubt they would be able to sign both.
Besides, I think Lester is going to San Francisco.

Why didn't the Cubs not tender Wesley Wright. Good middle relief pitcher.
1.) Simple, inline to make more than they want and possibly needed his roster spot. they could resign him to a lesser deal.
Cubs pass on that trade. Castro > Baez and Russell right now. We can't trade our 2nd best hitter when guys coming up haven't shown there talent yet. Majors > Minors
Yankees have no money to spend, its tied up with who they have.
Russell deserves $12 million a year. More years he gets good for him. He is a good catcher, free agency is what it is, and if Russell being the best catcher available and passes value of Molina or McCain its his year in free agency and that's what it is. Its not who is better then who, its who wants to throw the money at the best available and it could be $12 like I think or 4 years at 50million or more. As a Cubs fan 1 year at 14 or 2 years at 12 million is the most I'll go. I like the IU player we drafted to be up by 2017
Lester and Scherzer will sign for more years and money.
I read Tigers won't spend and Cubs have 70 million to spend on many websites.
