The Nationals have a legit shot at the World Series this year; the offense is rolling, and a Strasburg-Scherzer duo makes a nice pair atop the rotation. The bullpen is a mess, though.

Kansas City sends closer Kelvin Herrera to D.C. Other guys settle into their roles, and the Nats keep rolling. The Royals are mediocre and have several pending free agents.

Washington sends RHP Erick Fedde and OF Andrew Stevenson to KC to continue their retooling.

Herrera closes out games for the next two seasons in Washington.

The Nationals would be better off just mixing and matching than giving up two of their top prospects for a reliever.

JJ Hardy is hurt, and he's sucked the last couple of years when he was healthy. Baltimore needs a SS.

Cincinnati sends SS Zach Cozart to the Orioles. Cozart's defense and power fit well in Baltimore for now, and he is a free agent at the end of the year.

The Orioles give the Reds LHP Tanner Scott, their 10th best prospect. Cincy can slide Eugenio Suarez to SS, or Jose Peraza. Arismendy Alcantara and Scooter Gennett would figure to get more time, and Nick Senzel might get an early call up.

1.) 24 Jun 2017 22:53:52
Cozart would command a better return, most likely. He's having a stellar year.

2.) 25 Jun 2017 10:36:45
Stellar start he's ready cooled off he won't haul in as much as people think.

3.) 25 Jun 2017 13:46:43
Right, but he's bringing back more than a mediocre prospect.

4.) 25 Jun 2017 19:03:25
Jays will trade them Tulo. Take his contract, have him for free.

5.) 25 Jun 2017 20:21:37
I think this is fair. There aren't many teams that need a shortstop, the reds will essentially have to take what they can get.

6.) 25 Jun 2017 23:22:10
If Tanner Scott is the best they can get, adding an extra 1st round pick would be a better move.

7.) 26 Jun 2017 03:13:06
Assuming you meant add a first rounder by extending a QO, that isn't happening. Cozart is gone after this year, and isn't worth a QO.

8.) 26 Jun 2017 14:37:32
Reds would not get a QO for Cozart. So, something like this is the best they'll get.

9.) 26 Jun 2017 15:05:10
Good point on the QO. Guess I spaced on that.

But Tanner Scott is a guy that's more likely to go somewhere in a DFA trade than a trade for a starting, serviceable SS.

10.) 27 Jun 2017 03:14:59
I agree that Cozart is a solid player, with the bat and the glove, but there really aren't any contenders that have a weakness at shortstop, meaning Cozart won't command as much as he should.

11.) 27 Jun 2017 14:57:50
Right, but he's going to bring back more than a guy who would be moved in a DFA swap. Someone along the lines of Cody Sedlock or Hunter Harvey is far more realistic.

The Cubs need a jolt to break out of the post World Series doldrums. This does it.

Chicago sends OF Kyle Schwarber to the AL where he belongs; Schwarber goes to Tampa Bay, where he slots into the OF/DH/1B mix with Morrison, Rasmus, Dickerson and Souza. LoMo and Rasmus are free agents at the end of the year.

The Rays send Jake Odorizzi and RHP prospect Jacob Faria to Chicago. Odorizzi has two options remaining, so he's a cheap and controllable upgrade to a Cubs' rotation that needs a little youth. Faria could be ready soon.

Chicago has Heyward, Happ, Zobrist, Almora and Jay in the OF, so they'll be fine.

After trading Cueto, San Francisco let's Matt Cain walk. The two moves save the Giants some $42 million for next season.

San Fran then sends INF/OF Eduardo Nunez to Boston. He helps shore up 3B for the Sox.

Boston sends the Giants 3B prospect Bobby Dalbec and LHP Jhonathan Diaz.

1.) 09 Jun 2017 17:02:29
I'm not moving Dalbec for Nunez. Nunez is an ok player, but a lot of scouts are saying that they don't think Devers will be sticking at 3rd, and will likely move to 1st. I'd like to keep Dalbec around for that. I'd put Chavis into the deal instead.

San Francisco punts on the season soon and will look to the future.

Giants trade Johnny Cueto to Houston, which needs reinforcements for its playoff run. Cueto joins a rotaton led by Keuchel and McCullars, a nice playoff trifecta.

Astros send OF Derek Fisher, RHP Forrest Whitley and OF Daz Cameron, three of its top 10 prospects, to San Fran.

Both teams have holes and are mired in mediocrity, so they make a deal.

Tigers send OF J.D. Martinez and 3B Nick Castellanos to St. Louis. Cardinals lack a feared bat in the lineup, and J.D. changes that. He moves into RF, Castellanos goes to 3B, and the Cards hope to move forward. Martinez is a free agent, and it gives the Cards the option to sign him or let him go. Gyorko moves to the super sub role.

St. Louis sends OF Randall Grichuk, 3B Jhonny Peralta, and former closer Trevor Rosenthal to Detroit. Peralta fills in at 3B for his old team, Rosenthal joins the pen, and Grichuk tries his hand in the Detroit OF.

ESPN receives crazysull.

MLB-trade-rumors receives a crazy person to be named later.

LongtimeBaseballFan

1.) That seems to be fair.

2.) 06 Mar 2015 04:06:55
ESPN would want more in return.

3.) Another person ESPN could have is Clark_K since he post just as ridiculous things as Sull.

I believe the Scherzer signing could trigger another move or two for Washington. How about this one?

The Nationals send Jordan Zimmermann to Boston for Henry Owens and Allen Craig.

This gives the Reds Sox the ace they need atop the rotation, and gives the Nats a young arm in case Fister isn't brought back, plus a solid outfield/first base option for the injured Jayson Werth and injury-prone Ryan Zimmerman.

Thumbs up to the Baseball Winter Meetings. The Dodgers and Marlins, in particular, have made this year's event the best in years!

LongtimeBaseballFan

1.) Yes those two teams have made it interesting, oh and don't forget about the Red Sox. I just have to wonder one thing. What the hell are the Yankees doing. I know your a Red Sox fan. But the Yankees just seem to be content with doing very little especially after missing the playoffs for 2 straight years. I just don't get it. Are they planning to sign Scherzer. Signing internation FAs Kang and Maeda? Its just so baffling.

2.) 12 Dec 2014 08:35:40
The Red Sox really spiced things up with that Wade Miley trade. oh, and that Justin Masterson signing. lol.

Ten Good Players That Will Likely Be Traded:

1. Matt Kemp
2. Justin Upton
3. Carlos Gonzalez
4. Cole Hamels
5. Howie Kendrick
6. Yoenis Cespedes
7. Greg Holland
8. Matt Latos
9. Matt Wieters
10. Starlin Castro

Line up a trade partner and scenario for each.

LongtimeBaseballFan

1.) I understand that Holland is going to start getting expensive, but I still think the Royals have to keep him.

2.) Kemp - Seattle for Roenis Elias and Chris Taylor
Upton - could be Cincy for Latos, but doubt the Reds would add to payroll
CarGo - nowhere, the Rockies are too bullheaded to make this needed trade
Hamels - Red Sox for Mookie Betts and Yoenis Cespedes (and don't give the standard line that they will not trade Betts. They are that desperate for starting pitching)
Kendrick - don't think he will be traded
Cespedes - see Hamels trade
Holland - not traded
Latos - would rather trade Leake and extend Latos
Wieters - not traded until he proves healthy
Castro - Dodgers (they seems to like lazy/moody shortstops)

3.) Kemp to CIN w/ cash for Mat Latos

Upton to SEA w/ Evan Gattis for Hultzen, Walker, Peterson

Gonzalez = to injury prone to garner any good interest

Hamels to BOS for Cespedes and Edwin Escobar

Kendrick to TOR for Mitch Nay, Roberto Osuna, and AJ Jimenez

Castro to NYY for Luis Severino and Gary Sanchez

4.) 29 Nov 2014 19:31:31
My predictions/likely landing spots for these guys:

Kemp- I think he'll stay in LA. LA won't want to eat that much salary being that they are so far over the luxury cap. but should he move, Texas is one team that comes to mind immediately.

Upton- No one's giving the Braves what they want for a guy they can wait to sign next winter. The White Sox might get desperate, but I doubt it.

CarGo- Reds, Rangers, Mets are just three teams.

Hamels- I think San Diego will go all in on him. he's from SD and they know he'd be a hit there. If not SD, most likely Boston.

Kendrick- Will stay in LA and sign an extension. As long as Scioscia is there, Kendrick will be the starting 2B.

Cespedes- Mariners would probably be desperate enough to trade for him. but I think his case is just like Upton's.

Holland- There's probably 25 teams who would see Holland as an upgrade and give a great package for him.

Latos- Numerous teams would take him, minus San Francisco.

Wieters- Not going anywhere. For one, his recent surgery will require some proof before teams trade for him, but if he's ready, Orioles will re-sign him.

Castro- Mets, Yankees, White Sox, Astros are all teams that would likely try and make a trade for him.

In reality, probably 2 of these guys will ever be traded.

Oh, my bad. I forgot that Matt Kemp, Nick Markakis and Hunter Pence are all prospects, each with over a decade of MLB experience.

The Yanks won't get deGrom for that package - it would take lots more. It would take more than a reliever to get Schwarber. As for Harper and Machado, the Yanks could get one, but won't get both.

I am curious to see how the absence of Fielder in the lineup affects Miggy. Keep in mind, two Triple Crown-worthy seasons from Cabrera have both been with the Prince hitting behind him.
