Offseason trade bewteen CLE and SEA

Seattle gives up:
Nelson Cruz
Tony Zych

Cleveland gives up:
Bradley Zimmer
Mike Clevinger

Why this makes sense for CLE
This years trade deadline had CLE acquiring Miller and on the verge of acquiring Lucroy. Their mix of solid veterans and young players is a good combo that will last a few more years. Cruz can supplement an offense led by Lindor. He can DH while Santana moves to 1B. Zych has shown flashes of potential as well.

Why SEA should do this
They have few expendable pieces and Cruz is one of them. Zimmer is having a down year but his potential is eye wowing and Clevinger should help out an ailing rotation.

Any suggestions?

Suggestion: Don't quit your day job.

This is a deal that makes a little sense, but Cleveland won't deal away a future potential star for a year or two of Cruz. They are not going to pay for Seattle's mistakes, which has been trying to buy hitters to win. It has not worked for the Mariners, but Cleveland is on the right path by building through the farm system and signing low-cost guys such as Napoli.

2.) 05 Sep 2016 00:17:17
No way Cleveland trades Zimmer for Cruz. Cruz is way too old and Zimmer is likely going to be a big part of Clevelands future OF.

Seattle acquires
Chris Carter

Brewers acqurie
Nick Neidert
David Rollins.

Why doesn't Seattle just wait til winter shen he's a free agent?

2.) 24 Aug 2016 07:09:17
He has another year of control jerk.

3.) 24 Aug 2016 08:46:45
You are right. I guess I was thinking that because he signed a 1-year deal last winter, he was a FA again. I forgot he was non-tendered. Good catch.

4.) 25 Aug 2016 23:37:21
I still don't see the need for the Mariners to bring in another 1st baseman they got Vogelbatch from the Cubs and he should be their first baseman next year and they could move Cruz to DH and have a combination of Martin and Aoki and Gutierrez and or someone else in the outfield making it a better defensive outfield and getting Vogalbatch's bat into the lineup.

5.) 26 Aug 2016 14:52:10
Aoki is a good defender?

Crazysull, defensive values are hard enough as it is. Leave them be.

6.) 27 Aug 2016 23:52:35
Aoki's vesting option won't go through as they just demoted him to AAA to make sure he doesn't get the required amount of PA's. Carter would be a upgrade over Lind and could also DH.

7.) 28 Aug 2016 01:22:45
^^^You do realize MLB could actually force Seattle to pick up his option, right?

They are going to really start cracking down on blatant contract manipulation. Aoki is a strong candidate for that.

8.) 28 Aug 2016 02:35:30
^pink once again you are wrong. He has a mutual option, being demoted has nothing to do with the option. He was sent down so the Mariners could get fresh arms in the pen. He will probably be back up for the September call ups.

9.) 04 Sep 2016 13:10:36
the BATMAN: goo.gl/PKa8xV

refer to this website to back up my facts. It is a conditional option which basically means that if he reaches a certain amount of PA's he automatically receives the option

Mariners acquire

Danny Valencia

Athletics acquire

Drew Jackson
DJ Peterson.

Pink_Avenger_429

1.) 22 Aug 2016 13:51:05
Could happen especially after the locker room brawl with Butler.

2.) 23 Aug 2016 02:55:18
I don't think Valencia has that much value especially after his little incident.

3.) 31 Aug 2016 13:43:15
Valencia's value has nothing to do with a bizarre, out-of-character locker room snafu. Teams sign domestic violence guys, PED guys, guys with DUIs. Value isn't really held up in something like this.

Valencia was never really all that valuable, if he were, he would've been moved well before this incident.

Trade Idea for Washington and Seattle in the offseason

WAS offered Giolito for Andrew Miller at the deadline. Edwin Diaz is young, cost controlled, and can shine in WAS for many years. If WAS offered Giolito for Miller, they wouldn't hesitate to offer Giolito for Edwin Diaz.

Diaz can touch 102 with his fastball and has a hard biting slider.

Seattle acquires
Lucas Giolito

Washington Nationals receive
Edwin Diaz
Drew Jackson.

Pink_Avenger_429

1.) 16 Aug 2016 04:37:12
If the Nationals won't move Giolito for Davis or Miller, why on earth would they move him for an unproven guy like Diaz?

2.) 16 Aug 2016 04:54:15
@theJerk WAS was willing to give Giolito up for Miller. It was NYY that refused.

3.) 16 Aug 2016 05:04:26
Miller has been arguably the best reliever in baseball over the past 3 seasons. Diaz is having his first good year. Talented, yes, but he is not going to get a guy like Giolito.

4.) 16 Aug 2016 13:29:33
No way would the Nationals trade Giolito for that awful package. Pink the only reason the Yankees rejected the Miller for Giolito was because they wanted more in return and wouldn't do a one for one trade.

5.) 20 Aug 2016 15:28:51
@theJerk WAS was willing to give Giolito up for Miller. It was NYY that refused.

Stop! He knows everything.

ATL, CLE trade

Cleveland gets:

Arodyz Vizcaino

Atlanta gets:

Brady Aiken
Bobby Bradley

Some people may disagree with me on CLE acquiring another quality bullpen arm but a 7-8-9 of Vizcaino, Allen, Miller is very talented and with Lucroy not going to CLE, they may have to take another route in being the team to beat in the AL.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the Rockies have a direction. If they were rebuilding, they would of asked for prospects in return for Dickerson. The signed Parra and although they have a deep farm system, hasn't a complete rebuild like the cubbies or the Astros in the past couple of years proven to be more successful? Though they are at the .500 mark right now, I doubt it'll continue with the rotation they have. Thoughts on the direction their organization is heading in?

Pink_Avenger_429

1.) 20 May 2016 22:19:32
Have u watched them this year they aren't that bad they have good young pitching that has some potential and who were they going to have play outfield they have no ready I. could say the same thing when the Astros signed Rasmus and they needed bullpen help.

This was a shower though haha.

Anyway, let's say that BAL wants to sign Gallardo but they can't/ won't because of the first-round pick attached.

So the GM of BAL calls up the GM of TEX. And he says that he wants to have Gallardo but he doesn't wanna give up the first round pick.
So his offer is that he would send a player to TEX in exchange for Gallardo. TEX would officially "sign" Gallardo, trade him the instant the contract is finalized. BAL would pay for the salary which would be agreed upon his agent and the GM of BAL.
It sounds confusing and it is confusing but I think there's some kind of sense to it.

Lets use Ian Desmond as another example. Hypothetically speaking, let's say that TOR is interested in him.

The Washington Nationals would sign him for whatever the GM of TOR and Desmond's agent. (For this purpose let's say 2 years 20 million dollars)

Washington would officially sign Desmond. The instant after, the Nats trade Desmond and his full salary to TOR for a player (someone that isn't a superstar but could be of some use) . Then TOR would have the player they want without having to give up their top pick and the Nats would collect a player or two.
Thoughts?

Except for the fact that the commissioner, the owners, and the players union would likely all be against such a thing.

Intentionally circumventing the CBA is against the rules.

2.) 08 Feb 2016 13:32:35
For this to happen and it can't. Texas would have to sign Gallardo and then trade him to Baltimore when a newly signed free agent is eligible to be traded, which is mid June I believe. This of course would have to be all agreed upon before hand. I would also think Baltimore's competitive balance round B pick would have to be open for discussion.

3.) 08 Feb 2016 14:07:11
Trade would have to be approved by the player until mid June.

This is a move I've been hoping the Mariners make in quite some time. Edwin Diaz is the Mariners #4 ranked prospect. He's 21 years old and spent the bulk of last season at Double A Jackson, posting a 3.82 ERA. He had 145 strikeouts in 141 innings last year. I think the M's should make him into a relief pitcher, similar to how the Jays transformed Osuna into a RP. Osuna had instant success last year in the closer role. I think that Diaz could start the year in AA, and work his way up to a possible september call-up in 2016.

MiLB Minimum Wage

I'm doing a school project on MiLB Players getting paid less than the minimum wage. What are your opinions on the MiLB's situation?

Pink_Avenger_429

1.) 15 Jan 2016 16:23:19
Here's a great quote for your project, from a Major League spokesperson:

"MLB believes that the compensation paid by its Clubs to Minor League players is in full compliance with the law. The minimum wage and overtime provisions of federal and state wage and hour laws were not intended to apply to professional athletes such as Minor League baseball players…

Although the salaries received by players in the lower-levels of the Minor Leagues can be modest compared to some other jobs in this country, players typically only play in those lower-level leagues for a few seasons, and can supplement their income during the off-season. "

(Source: USA Today)

As for my opinion: being a professional athlete is not a necessary job for our social structure to survive. In other words, if we took out baseball and other sports, our society would not collapse.

I don't often complain about people not making much money in jobs that are not necessary to our survival. Go be a teacher, doctor, lawyer, mechanic, etc., then we can complain about wages.

2.) 15 Jan 2016 16:25:13
Think of it in this sense:

These guys get to play a game and get paid to do it. Meanwhile, there are hard-working people who do all the necessary things for our society to progress. I don't generally feel bad for people who work in luxury occupations.

The MIA Marlins are young. And they're offense is good. Their SP kills them. They should take the opportunity of having the young core and add multiple young pitchers. One way of doing this is dealing Fernandez. Their OF trio is young and GOOD, Gordon is in his prime, and Bour is somewhat okay. They should take this opportunity to get more pitching while also signing 1 FA pitcher.

Proposal - Deal between TEX, and MIA.

TEX gives up - Chi Chi Gonzalez, Dillion Tate, Luis Ortiz, Lewis Brinson, Keone Kela
MIA gives up - Jose Fernandez
MIA sends Jose to TEX, TEX sends their players to MIA,

Alternate deal

Deal between BOS and MIA
BOS gives up - Brian Johnson, Eduardo Rodriguez, Henry Owens, Blake Swihart, Anderson Espinoza (A)
MIA gives up - Jose Fernandez, J. T Realmuto

With this deal, MIA's rotation would be something like

Tom Koehler
Enduardo Rodriguez
Henry Owens
Brian Johnson
Jarred Cosart.

These trades are horrible Marlins are better off signing Kennedy, or Fister or Chen or gallardo.

2.) 11 Jan 2016 01:44:25
Take every good, young player in the Rangers' system, and send them to the Marlins, and it's still likely not enough.

A deal of this kind would have to include Joey Gallo.

Do a full rebuild similar to HOU or ATL. They already have promising young talent in both the bigs and the minor leagues so trading any veterans with possible value might make sense. Kevin Jepsen and Eduardo Nunez could bring back some decent talet.

Umpires only get noticed whenever they make a horrible call. It happens to all umpires and although its tragic, it does happen.

The average contract is getting larger and larger money wise every year. Signing guys like Harper and Correra to long extensions in the 10 - 15-year range could be a bargain if they perform every year they way they have performed this year. So 15 years 450 million dollars for Harper would be worth it as long as Harper continues being the best hitter in the MLB.
