Reds have enough pitcher for now. Maybe they should go for position players but as a cincy fan I kinda like this trade as we are rebuilding now.

TOR gets:
James Paxton (SEA)
PHI gets:
Max Pentecost (TOR)
Richard Urena (TOR)
Dustin Ackley (SEA)
Patrick Kivlehan SEA)
Seattle gets their speedy OF who hits for average, and their backup catcher. Toronto doesn't quite get their high profile pitcher here, but Paxton, who gets off the DL soon, is not just a rental, is still young, and doesn't cost the blue jays a whole lot. Not to mention he is also a Canadian. Philadelphia gets 3 good, young prospects to help them rebuild, as well as Ackley who still has the potential to improve.

Paxton is young and controllable for a few years. This won't happen.
Isn't Iwakuma going to be a free agent? Perhaps that might work for both teams.

Drew Smyly just came off a season were he had a 4.88 era, and only has a fairly average 3.75 career era, with 2 years control left. Mariners definitely don't give up 2 of their top 3 prospects for him.

Mariners say no. They wouldn't even do Gohara + small prospect for Cozart + prospect before the deadline, and that was before Cozart started to slump, and got injured.

mariners trade is awful. They wouldn't trade away 2 decent prospects and a decent reliever for an average catcher, and a declining pitcher that both will be free agents soon.
