(Assuming Houston slips further and falls out of the AL West race soon)

Red Sox - Astros Trade Idea

Red Sox Receive: Doug Fister (RHP)

Astros Receive: Trey Ball (LHP), William Jerez (LHP)

Red Sox rotation:
(1) David Price
(2) Steven Wright
(3) Rick Porcello
(4) Eduardo Rodriguez
(5) Doug Fister
(6) Elias/ Kelly/ Buchholz (in case of injury to anyone in the rotation)

Fister is a rental so it shouldn't cost as much, definitely not any of the "Big 5" (Benintendi, Moncada, Espinosa, Devers, Groome), and considering guys like Teheran will be expensive, Fister might be the more realistic, and cheaper option.

Astros meanwhile get a pair of promising lefty prospects and Jerez has the potential to be a potential 6th-7th inning man from the bullpen. Trey Ball has had a good season so far and the Astros could take a chance on him.

I would like Rich Hill but considering we have to deal with Billy Beane, it's more than likely we would have to give up more just for Hill. I could see Beane "holding us hostage" for the services of Hill.

What do you guys think? Fair deal? Astros need another prospect back? Red Sox are overpaying?

It's not terrible, but I would rather the Sox give up more and get someone better. Andrew Cashner comes to mind.

Is Cashner really that better?

Maybe if you give up some more but get a good reliever from San Diego like Buchter or Rodney.

I would trust Cashner far more than Fister. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't. Cashner is always injured. I like the deal for Fister but would like to maybe not give up two lefties since we could use a nice left reliever coming out of the bullpen.

Thing is, there just aren't many SPs to be dealt this year, so it seems. I think Boston might have to give up someone like Benintendi or Travis to get an upgrade. That said, they would want more than Fister or Cashner if they have to give up a good prospect.
