Cole Hamels has waived his no-trade clause for a trade to the Yankees, but not to the Red Sox. Red Sox dawdle while the Yanks get the ace to put them over the top.

Cole Hamels and Domonic Brown to NYY
Aaron Judge, Luis Severino, Ian Clarkin, Rob Refsnyder to PHI.

The package MLBfan had below was better than this one.

The Red Sox aren't 'dawdling'. They just prefer to keep their top young guys rather than to trade them for the privilege of paying $110 MM for an aging pitcher.

When a team like the Yankees doesn't have the prospects they need to complete a deal, they use other avenues to achieve the same end. One of those avenues could include the participation of a third team who can provide the Phillies with a TORP type prospect that the Yankees clearly do not have. The Yankees get to pay for that TORP addition to the third team with rostered players and / or cash and other prospects.

This first step, makes it possible to have further discussions about Cole Hamels. it doesn't complete a trade.

Its funny how you said he waived his no trade clause. This clearly has not happen. Its a weak proposal as in what other teams can offer. The Yankees don't seem to be interested in any top pitchers this offseason. On thing is where would Brown would play, who would be the the Yankees second baseman also.

I'm a Yankee fan and I don't like the trade. It isn't enough for the Phillies but I also wouldn't trade most of our farm for Hamels. Next years free agent crop of pitchers should be really good. I'll take my chances next year in free agency than give up the future.

I appreciate reading everyone's feedback. I made this proposal because I think it's close to what will end up happening. Maybe not this deal exactly, but teams want to hold on to top-25 prospects, and the Phils need to make moves to get out of the 2008-era. Once Hamels is gone, the cleansing can begin in earnest. Get whatever you can for Byrd, Papelbon, Howard (?), Ruiz, Utley, Brown, and Revere. And Lee at the deadline.
