Diamondbacks Moves

Every year there is a team that goes out and spends a lot of money in the offseason to make a push. The past few years we have seen the Marlins, White Sox and Padres surprise everyone and spend more than expected to put a contender on the field. For them it has not worked, but I feel we will see another team do the same next year and it will be Arizona. This is what I believe they will do to contend next year. Personally I don't believe they are far away from contending and I think next year is the year they go all in.

I know the first thing you're thinking is "no way they can afford that" that is actually incorrect. The D-Backs payroll this year was $91 million which was the 3rd highest in franchise history. However with some good contracts coming off the books they will go into the offseason with only $53 million on the books. Hill ($1 mil buyout), Arroyo (traded), Ziegler ($1 mil buyout), and FA's Hellickson, Pennington, Castillo and Hernandez account for $38 million off the books. The FA's they have singed will account for $51 Avg annual salary. Therefore, the D-backs can add 3 very good pieces and keep their payroll under $105 million
